Even the bathroom got spiffed up!

Many many thanks to vyedma and ash57005 who helped immensely! vyedma, you showed me it wasn't as daunting a task as I feared; ash57005, you have superb organizational skills!

I've been rather a busy person the last couple of days.

Before:

After:

Sure, there's more to do, but the bedroom had gotten past intolerable.

I regretfully don't have "before" pictures of the kitchen or living room, but I'll post the "after"s as soon as I'm done cleaning. They're "works-in-progress" right now - clean enough to sweep the floor, but a fair bit yet to put away yet.

One project down, many more to finish! [Aug. 29th, 2007|07:47 pm]

Finally! I completed a project.

Before:

This old armoire was gifted to me by oakleaves who was about to throw it out. It was exactly what I was looking for to hide all my scuba gear and ski equipment in. However, there was a missing mirror panel, and we had to disassemble it (using crowbars...ahem) to remove it from his place.

That was in October. It looked like this:

Fortunately I was able to reassemble it into something stronger than it had been at oakleaves' place, thanks to a few parts from Home Depot.

oakleaves later also had a mirror with a chipped corner that he was wanting to throw out, but it was large enough to cut a replacement mirror pane from, so I acquired it from him.

And that's how the project stayed, until today...

After:

What's more, the guy at the glass cutting place wouldn't even charge me for cutting the mirror down to size! 3 cuts, a quick sanding, and it got DONE. And he did this even though the glass shop was technically closed!

It took me only about 10 minutes (and 10 months) to install the new mirror panel.

The phone and Internet (obviously) are fully functional at Herebeorg again. In case anyone cares. The number hasn't changed.

[music |none anymore... it's quiet here]

Wow, even though I still don't have much to show for it, I've actually been doing a LOT lately around herebeorg.

For example:

- Varathane'd (applied clear sealant) my bedroom door (3 coats!)
- installed the new doorknob on the door, and relocated the older doorknob back on the closet where it came from
- bought and installed curtains on not only my bedroom window, but the south living room window as well!
- Varathane'd and installed a shelf above the computer workstation. Now, finally, the printer can move off the monitor. This shelf enabled me to install and test the USB scanner as well.
- took 4 boxes of Christmas decorations to storage.
- moved the BMX bike down to the garage
- FOUND MY DIVE LOG BOOK, which had been MIA for months. (It was in a box of miscellany in the garage)
- and sorted through a whole stack of bills and invoices. Finally, I will be getting some of my paperwork in order.

Also, many thanks go out to vyedma who, after numerous hard-fought battles, convinced my computer to accept the "new" 40 Gig hard drive as a secondary drive. In fact, jut this evening I ported much of my older crap over to this second drive, which has brought my main drive's free space up to about 15 Gig. (It was stumbling along under only 4-6 Gig of free space before) I should be able to delete a few more things and free up even more space. Yay me.

Other than that, I guesss it's been bits'n'pieces happening around here. Hopefully this period of "go-get'em" zeal will continue... I'd like to get the house clean enough to not embarrass the landlord or my friends when they come over!

Went to Ikea to meet oakleaves for lunch on his break...

*sigh*

I really should avoid that place. I tend to spend too much.

:)

But it's all good.

CURTAINS!!!

That is all.

Tonight, as green_hopper and I were coming back to Herebeorg from a late dinner at fozziecoyote's, the landlord and a helper had just gotten there with a new-to-me (used) fridge to be brought upstairs.

green_hopper and I went upstairs, put Mino in a bedroom and opened the doors to the apartment.

It took much thumping and banging and fozziecoyote removing doors from the apartment, but the new behemothfridge is now in place.

I have to wait til tomorrow morning to let the "Freon" settle. (I suppose it might even be Puron or R134a? R22 is being phased out, and "Freon" generally refers to R-12, used in automobile air conditioners, and discontinued in 1995)

Then I will get to plug in the new fridge and see if it works. Yay!

...and I have a helluva a lot of cleanup to do around here. The infamous Disaster Pit hath just exploded...

[mood |disappointeddisappointed]

I just found out my fridge has kicked the bucket.

It has been making loud clicking noises at random - kind of like the sound a coffee maker will make as the element clicks on and off. I checked on it last night and nothing really seemed amiss.

My ice cube trays are filled with completely lukewarm water which suggests things have been thawing since at least yesterday. That means all the food that has been in the fridge as well as the freezer portions is pretty much history. I can probably salvage most of the condiments, but I'm losing quite a bit of meat, as well as perishables like milk, veggies and potentially the eggs. I'll cook what I can tonight, and it can overnight on the balcony in my barrack box as it's supposed to hit just below freezing.

Fortunately, most of my deep-frozen products are in fact in the Deep Freeze, and never made it to the fridge freezer. Thank the gods I had reason to set up the deep freeze a few weeks ago, and it's been running flawlessly since then.

I so didn't need this two days before payday! Not that I could afford to replace everything even on payday, since I'm so behind...

green_hopper, who knows I'm far from rich, was worried about whether I'd be able to replace the fridge, but I assured him it's the landlord's responsibility as it comes with the house. (The place he lives is an owned home, so of course appliances don't "come with" the place) I just have to inform them that it's pooched.

More housely stuff [Mar. 1st, 2007|12:31 am]

fozziecoyote and vyedma are co-conspiring to help rid herebeorg of excess clutter that could potentially be useful to someone else. Thus, a whole lot of stuff is about to be offered up on Freecycle in the next little while. It's all good stuff, it's just... surplus.

fozziecoyote has agreed to store five boxes of random dishes and kitchenware for bar_fluff pending the latter's move into a new apartment.

In other news, I finally bit the bullet and bought a Genuine Ink Cartridge for the Canon BJC printer that oakleaves' mother gave me at Christmas. I connected it and got it to run off a Windows Test Page. I'll look into refills for the ink cartridge: even though there aren't any "Canon"-compatible cartridge refills on the market, I've refilled cartridges before, and I don't see why generic ink of an appropriate color couldn't be used. (black is black, right??)

Next projects: stain the door and the printer shelf, install printer shelf. Install Rack-Sack garbage bag in kitchen. Have mirror cut for armoire and install into armoire door and reattach door.

Okay one last post for tonight.

This is the New Shiny, (the replacement coffee pot), all prepped with water & grinds, and ready to sustain me in the morning.

G'night, all.
